Looking for Distro

With any version of Gambas 2 binary packages available?

I'm thinking openSuse does, but can't find a package list.

I'm currently running Ubuntu Studio 7.04  Nice and fast....

No, I have tried and tried to compile it. I need a rest from that approach for a while.

TIA

I use openSUSE 10.2 and I have both Gambas 1 and 2 installed. I compiled from source and they seem to work well. Personally I think this is the best way to install Gambas. But you need to make sure all required dependencies (with their dev packages) are installed first.

The Gambas source forge site lists ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-gbv/rpms/ as a source for SUSE binary packages. You could give this a try. Unfortunately the install read me with this package is not very good and I found it difficult to work out the install process. I then gave up on this package and compiled and have compiled ever since.

The stock component has been moved within Gambas 2. So my guess is you have a mixture of versions installed. The Gambas source forge site at http://gambas.sourceforge.net/download.html suggests you do not use the version that comes with openSUSE. It is best to make sure this is un-installed before you try installing any other version. I have known the openSUSE version of Gambas to cause conflicts with the compiled version.

Well, since you asked... ;D. If you like fast, you could give VectorLinux 5.8 a try. The Gamba 1.0.x runtime is part of the base system, as several VL apps are "made in Gambas". The Gambas2 runtime will be included as soon as the bytecode goes stable. On the VL repository, you will find ready-made packages (both full and runtime versions) of 1.0.17 (1.0.18 this week, if I get a chance) and 1.9.49. It works well in both the VL Standard (with XFCE 4.4) and the SOHO (with KDE), in fact, a lot of the VL apps development was done in the Standard.
