Greetings
« on: June 30, 2011, 10:53:19 PM »
Greetings,

My name is Graham Lawrence Wilson and I am a regular over at the Gambas Forum. However, back when I first wanted a place to discuss Gambas I found that it was rather quiet there so I tried to get an account here but activation were disabled. Now that Gambas Forum is moving over to a new host, and will be only partially usable for the next little while, I decided to get an account here as well. I am the technical director for Piga Software, a small free software development organization ran by me and my twin brother. We mostly focus on making computer games but do some utility work - mostly when it suits our own needs. Because of our focus, my main skills are with regards to two-dimensional graphics engines, with knowledge on collisions, artificial intelligence and object interaction as well. I am also just starting to learn 3D through OpenGL, though this is primitive at the moment. I looked forward to taking part here.  ;)

Actually it has been fully functional, just the old site has been read-only.

Anyway... welcome aboard! Nelson has a lot of info here and I suspect once word starts getting out he's back in business, the boards will be busy again.

Well, it has been for me. The new site won't let me log in using my old account credentials.  :(

Do I have to re-sign up?

Anyways, I certainly wish this forum well even if it is still a little quiet.  ;)

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I just had my right side wisdom teeth removed.  :-X

I've been fortunate I've never needed my wisdom teeth pulled. They've never hurt but they have caused minor space issues though.

Hi Graham,

Welcome to the forum. It's my fault for keeping the this forum closed to new registrations for such a long time, but forum spammers were hammering the forum so much, I had no choice. Now SMF 2.0 is doing a better job of helping me to keep the forum clean and not driving me insane.

For example, I once had a few spammers post about 500 spam posts in one night. That's how bad it got. New spam account registrations were at the rate of about 30 a day.

I just wasn't looking forward to that constant cleanup anymore.

Don't worry about it, me and my brothers are also constantly dealing with spam on our various wikis and have heard countless horror stories from various forum administrators over the past few years. It really is a scourge.  :o
